Heron

our print/mp3 fusion mini-mag

Heron launched on 15 July 2009 with a short story by Mel Bosworth.

As of 8 January 2010, Issue 2 now features three poems by unFold's Regular Contributor Eric Burke, published exclusively by Folded Word.

Heron logoHeron is released in multiple formats. The most exciting one for us is the limited-edition professionally printed mini-mag. Most are available as signed collectibles, distributed by the author. But we have saved a few to give out to those who help us spread Heron across the globe.

More accessible are our free print-at-home versions of Heron. These will be downloadable from this webpage from 15 January 2010 until noon Eastern on 15 July 2010. A free reading, by Eric, of the work on mp3 is available as well.

We will be announcing distribution locations for signed copies in the Columbus, Ohio area soon. In February, we will also have a way for you to order 5-packs of printed Herons if you'd like to help us add a little poetic sunshine to someone's day.

portrait of Eric BurkeEric Burke is a computer professional by day and a poet by night, all in the grand state of Ohio. In an ironic twist of fate, his nickname is "Red" even though his hair is not. It's a Viking thing.

Eric's work has appeared in print, online, and even in video format (Big Other and unFold). His most recent published poems include two in elimae, "Overcast" in Right Hand Pointing, "Countdown" in PANK, and "At Twelve" in The Driftwood Review. Eric's poems, while written in a spare style, are packed with layers of meaning that peel off one at a time the longer they're held in the mind.

Beyond being a valued contributor, Eric has been a supportive friend of Folded Word. The editorial team really can't thank him enough for all he does, but we hope this issue of Heron is a start.
